The visualised transportation routes of three million MegaFon subscribers in Moscow helped analyse mobility patterns, gain useful insights about dynamics of city population during the day, and identify locations with the highest subscriber density. The importance of these data and visualisations for public authorities, retailers, banks, providers of taxi services, and other businesses is absolutely impossible to overestimate.
The project was presented at the Moscow Urban Forum, the flagship event for the city planning and urban expert community of the region, and it was highly commended by the Moscow City Government.
State agencies of Singapore, Istanbul, Lisbon, Amsterdam, Rome, and other large cities collaborate with local providers of telecommunication services to develop dynamic real-time mobility maps used in traffic control systems for the analysis of bottlenecks in transportation networks. Cell phone data appear to be more reliable and cost effective than video streaming content coming from traffic control cameras.
